Entry Level Digital Camera Reviews

If you listen to advertising, every digital camera released is the best, most cost-effective, feature-packed product on the market. But have you ever stopped to consider the truth to this? There is no point running out to buy the newest offering or something that has the backing of the highest advertising budget. It doesn’t correlate with quality or performance.

The best and only honest way to find what camera is right is to read reviews. By looking at the pages of information out there you can actually find a product that is suitable to your own needs. In the entry-level SLR market, there are two main contenders for the prize of best purchase.

These are from two front runners in the SLR market, Canon and Nikon. When considering the starter range the Nikon D40 and Canon Rebel XTi are the two most popular available today. The Canon has a great reputation as an all-purpose SLR and will suit almost everyone’s needs.

Pricing is brilliant and what you’d expect for entry-level into the market and includes a lens kit which is important – you may not realize as a new user but not all SLR cameras will include a lens in the price, although most entry-level versions have at least one. Lenses are how you customize your camera to suit your needs so they are an important feature.

If you’re after a camera that will let you take a soft approach into digital SLR the D40 by Nikon is ideal. It’s full of automatic modes so you can easily take some great images while you’re still learning the details. It’s been made with great materials and Nikon are renowned for professional quality in their products.

Alternatively you could consider something like the Olympus Evolt E510. This little camera can do a lot and while Olympus has traditionally been a point and shoot manufacturer, their foray into SLR technology is impressive. It is probably best for those who like to manually adjust their settings and might not be the best choice for the first SLR experience you have.

Overall there are some great entries in the entry level market, well worth considering when you need to purchase a new SLR or are looking to move up from point and shoot to something more technical.
