Buying A New SLR Digital Camera
There comes a time where buying a new camera becomes a priority, and if you’re at that point then there are a few things to consider before you go looking. Whether it’s upgrading from film cameras for the first time, or replacing an older model that has worn out or is too big and uncomfortable there will be options available to suit.
Unlike many years ago when digital cameras were new to the market, these days cameras are available in smaller and more functional form. You can find them as small as credit cards that will slip easily into a pocket, or there are more complex models available that fill the gap between compact and digital SLR.
As with any electronic purchase you need to find out exactly what your needs are, and then what you can afford. If your needs and budget meet then you will have a large range of items to choose from, but even if you need to lower your cost, there are some amazing cameras available at a fraction of the price of years previous – you can find a digital camera for under $100 without too much trouble.
Don’t bother with features you don’t understand and have no use for. This is just wasting your money because you’ll pay extra to have them available. There is also little point in going for the highest megapixel size available if you’re only planning on printing regular sized prints.
Generally around 6 megapixels (MP) is plenty in a compact camera and anything more may be wasted due to the censor size. It’s better to focus on optical zoom than megapixel count, and if you don’t intend to take zoom photography then even this is unnecessary.
All of the major players have products available in the lower price range and these can be very much suited for most every day needs.
If you want a little bit more than the average, then look at the bridging options which have extra manual control but the backing of compact automatic modes if you prefer, without the cost of lenses and accessories that are standard with SLR cameras. Alternatively, jumping to an entry-level digital SLR camera is a great way to learn more about the functions and manual control.
