Professionals often opt to use RAW files. These are complicated and quite often limited to specific software. Sometimes manufacturers also create types of RAW files that are incompatible with other software besides their own which is not the most ideal situation.
The format name comes from the fact that these essentially have no correction and it’s up to you not only to correct the image in post processing but also to then choose a format to save in – this is not a file you can print or send.
You have to choose the right type of format for your needs and ideally a camera that offers more than one option is the ideal way to go, allowing you to take advantage of numerous styles depending on your current needs.
